Our congratulations go to Junaid Mubeen, who has been awarded a Kennedy Scholarship.
It provides funding for one year's study at Harvard (the scholarship includes tuition fees, stipend, health insurance and so forth). There were 6 places offered from an initial pool of 297 candidates (24 were shortlisted for interview). Junaid will be studying a one-year Master's course in International Education Policy, starting in September, after he has finished his DPhil at St Anne's in Pure Maths.
He says of this:
My aspiration is to influence Maths Education policy in the UK, as part of a broader international discussion. I am humbled to have been given such an amazing opportunity to combine my passions for Mathematics and Education in the policy arena."
The last Kennedy Scholar from St Anne's was Hiten Patel - a Mathematician in the same year group as Junaid (he received the award five years ago for a Master's in Applied Mathematics). Junaid sees this as testimony to the wonderful support offered by the St Anne's Mathematics tutors.
