Academic Background:

David Bonilla is a research fellow at the Transport Studies Unit in the Oxford University Centre for the Environment at the University of Oxford. He did his first degree (Economics) at London Guildhall University, his MSc (Economics) at Queen Mary College, University of London, and his PhD at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Prior to his PhD he was an energy economist, focusing on the transport sector, at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, located in Tokyo. He was a researcher at the Venture Business Laboratory of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and he worked as a European Union-Japan Science and Technology Research Fellow at the same university. After that he held a research fellowship (Marie Curie) at the Department of Applied Economics, and the Department of Land Economy at the Climate Change Mitigation Research Center (4CMR), both at Cambridge University. David is interested in the interaction of several disciplines: economics, engineering and political issues affecting energy and environment. He is particularly interested in econometric applications to energy technologies including vehicles as well as on energy policy assessment and design.

Research Interests:

Dr Bonilla’s current research includes: Adoption of Bio-fuels in UK transport; Econometric Analysis of New Car Fuel Economy Models (Japan, UK); Demand for Freight transport; Gasoline Demand Forecasting (Japan, UK); Demand for Alternative Fuels / Vehicles; and Modelling technological change affecting energy supply and demand.
His research interests include: Transport energy demand modelling; alternative fuel vehicles; distributed generation and low CO2 technologies; Asia pacific energy issues; EU energy policy; and global climate change policy.
Along with the TSU director (Prof. David Banister) and Dr J. Zhao of the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), David is currently developing a transport and energy research programme focusing on China.
