Until 18, I attended Great Baddow High School (near Chelmsford), my local comprehensive school, to whose teaching and encouragement I owe much. I then read mathematics at Selwyn College, Cambridge, completing the undergraduate degree and then the Certificate of Advanced Study (Part III) before moving to Magdalen College, Oxford. My doctoral research, under the supervision of Professor Simon Donaldson, FRS, was in the field of low-dimensional geometry. I have been a lecturer at St Anne’s since 1993, and a Supernumerary Fellow since 2007.
All areas of pure mathematics, but in particular topology, differential geometry and number theory.
