Victoria’s research focuses on understanding how young children become bilingual and biliterate. She carries out research on how children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) develop both linguistically and academically, and investigates the nature of literacy development with a focus on reading comprehension skills and writing. She is also interested in cross linguistic influence in bilingual children – how knowing two languages influences a child’s linguistic knowledge and literacy skills and how knowledge of multiple languages influence each other. This work is also related to her interest in foreign language learning in pre-primary and primary school. A key element of her work is on lexical and morphosyntactic development as determinants of linguistic proficiency and literacy development.
