Pietro's research interests are in analytical political philosophy. In particular, his DPhil thesis examines the values of freedom and respect for persons as moral foundations of left-libertarianism. Left-libertarian theories are hybrid theories of justice in that they combine a free-market oriented programme of political economy with the attainment of objectives of social justice (e.g. with an egalitarian distribution of resources). In terms of policy implications his research provides a freedom-based justification of redistributive policies like a basic income over traditionally welfarist programmes.
