Welcome

St Anne’s stands out in Oxford as a college that is down to earth, modern, informal and open to the world. It also has a determined sense of its academic purpose.

This is a young college and attracts students from all sorts of different cultures and backgrounds, from across Britain and across the world.

It began in 1879 offering a university education to women who otherwise would have found it unaffordable. It became a full College of the University in 1952. It has taken both men and women since 1979, and is now one of Oxford’s largest colleges, with over 400 undergraduates and 150 graduates.

Our commitment to emancipation continues. We are well known for our relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the supportive relationships between academics and students, and between undergraduates and graduates.

St Anne’s takes pride in the way our students grow intellectually during their time here. We recognise that an Oxford college needs to offer a distinct culture to meet the needs of our graduate Masters and research students.

We recognise that university can be an intense time and take especial care of the welfare of everyone here.

St Anne’s expects its students to work hard, but at the same time to relish all the different opportunities Oxford offers. We will challenge you and stretch you, but we are above all a community that sets out to offer an experience that will transform the lives of all who study here.
