DEGREE DAYS

St Anne’s congratulates all students eligible to graduate, whether you have completed your undergraduate degree, or a post-graduate Masters or doctorate.

Our degree days are more than simply a formal ceremony at which your degree is awarded; it is the Collegiate University’s time-honoured way of recognising our students’ individual and collective achievements.

• Degrees can be conferred without attendance at a ceremony (in absentia) on the next available date. The application form to apply for this is available by CLICKING HERE.

CURRENT STUDENTS

Current undergraduate and postgraduate taught students will be emailed an invitation through the University’s booking system (eVision) to book a graduation ceremony in the Michaelmas Term of their final year. (N.B. This means that students on 9- or 12-month Master's courses will receive their booking invitation within 1-2 months of starting their courses.) Postgraduate research students who successfully complete their courses will be offered dates to graduate at ceremonies occurring after June 2013 upon receiving their leave to supplicate.

Please note: as a finalist, you are given priority status and are guaranteed a place at the ceremony offered to you through the University’s eVision booking system.

You should only decline your allocated ceremony in extreme circumstances. Once you have declined a space, you become an ‘historic’ graduand and will be offered to be placed on a waiting list for your preferred date, as is also the case for alumni (please see the section below).

ALUMNI

If you are alumna/alumnus who received your degree results in or before December 2012, and you would like to graduate in person, please read the information below.

There is currently very limited space available (30 spaces) at a graduation ceremony on 3 August 2013, at 2.30pm, at the Sheldonian Theatre, for historic students of St Anne's College.

If you have any enquiries about this ceremony please email Mrs Sophie Okeke in the first instance.
Your place at this ceremony will not be confirmed until your booking form has been acknowledged. Please note that we are currently unable to provide a celebratory lunch in College for this day, but you will be contacted if this changes.

If this date does not suit you, you can request to be placed on a waiting list for any of the dates at which St Anne’s is presented graduands during 2013. The dates are available here: (University website link) If you wish to be placed on a waiting list for one of the dates shown in the link above, please email (administrator(at)st-annes.ox.ac.uk with the following information:

• Full Name (including middle and maiden name, if appropraite)
• OSS (student number), or your date of birth
• Degree and subject to be conferred (e.g. D Phil, BA, MA)
• Preferred ceremony date (see University link for dates at which St Anne's are presenting)
• Home/ contact postal address
• Contact telephone number
• Contact email address

You will then be placed on a waiting list and the College will contact you if a space comes available at your preferred ceremony. Please note that it is not possible for the University to guarantee you a space at your preferred ceremony, and that it may be several months or more before the University is able to offer you a place.

If you would like to graduate in absentia, please fill out the booking form for graduating in absentia for the next available degree ceremony.

THE OXFORD MA
THE OXFORD MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE

In most UK universities, the Master of Arts is a free-standing graduate degree awarded by examination. In Oxford (as in Cambridge), the status of Master of Arts is a mark of seniority within the University which may be conferred twenty-one terms after matriculation. Please note the Oxford MA is about reaching a new status within the University and not an upgrade of your BA or an additional qualification. It therefore has no subject or class, and the nominals 'MA' should be represented in place of, not in addition to, the 'BA' in the holder's signature and on documents such as CVs.

If you have completed a BA or BFA you will be eligible to take an MA in or after the 21st term since you matriculated (i.e. seven years after matriculation). This is not an automatic process and to obtain your MA you must apply to graduate at a degree ceremony (either in person or in absentia). You must have had your BA or BFA conferred in order to take your MA. They can be conferred at the same ceremony provided that sufficient time has elapsed since you matriculated. You are not at any point eligible to take an MA if your undergraduate degree is an Oxford integrated Masters degree. If you are eligible and wish to take your MA, please see the Alumni section above. 

Those admitted to the degrees of MEng, MChem, M.Phys, MMath, MESc, or MBiochem do not convert it to an MA (or take an MA in addition), but from their twenty-first term from Matriculation they are automatically entitled to wear an MA gown.

DEGREE CERTIFICATES

IN ABSENTIA GRADUATION

Degrees may be taken 'in absence' at any ceremony (ie without attending a ceremony). For the application form see above. 

TRANSCRIPTS

The University of Oxford provides official transcripts for students who matriculated from 2007 onwards.

For students who matriculated between 1989 and 2006, the Academic Office will compile a statement giving details of dates of attendance, degree course(s), examinations taken, marks achieved, and degree class.  Please return a TRANSCRIPT ORDER FORM  to Richard Davis and allow five working days for despatch. Please note: an original signature is required, so you can fax or post the form, or scan and email it.

For those matriculating  before 1989, if necessary we will confirm that no transcript is available.  Your degree certificate will confirm attendance and degree awarded.
