St Anne's College SAS North West Branch
The North West branch was set up at an inaugural meeting at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall in November 1997. The branch aims to enable alumnae to renew old friendships and make new ones.
A small committee has organised at least two social events a year ever since. Geographically, it is a large region and we try to vary the locations we visit to make it easier for alumnae to attend. In recent years, for example, we have held events in Buxton, Chester, Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster. We also try to have at least one event a year either during the evening or at a weekend.
As a sample of activities:
· A summer evening cruise on a canal boat
· A private tour from the butler and housekeeper at Lyme Hall
· A private tour round Manchester Art Gallery given by an alumna
· Walk to Heysham and afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel, Morecambe
Our events usually involve a lot of good conversation amongst old and new friends, fuelled by plenty of food and drink!
Another key function of the branch is to host an annual freshers’ welcome party in late September – just before the start of term. We have run this event annually since 1998. We hold the party in a Manchester city centre wine bar and the branch funds the entire cost of the drink and finger food provided. Feedback about the event is very positive and it is well attended by freshers and undergraduates.
