We would suggest that any gift or Codicil to benefit the College should include the following wording:

I give to the Principal and Fellows of St Anne’s College, in the University of Oxford, the .......... for the general purposes of the College, and I further direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the College shall be sufficient discharge for my Executors.

St Anne’s main goal is to strengthen our endowment, which gives the College long-term financial security. Gifts for our general purposes are, therefore, especially appreciated, as they will allow the College to respond more flexibly to changing educational needs in the years to come.

If you wish to specify a particular area of St Anne’s life that you would want your gift to support, you might like to insert the following wording:

… for the general purposes of the College, with a preference that it be used to fund [your specified area]

The College’s Governing Body will always do its utmost to ensure the wishes of our benefactors are fulfilled; this suggested wording simply allows the College some discretion for unforeseen circumstances.
