We recommend that you make your gift to the University's charitable arm, Americans for Oxford, Inc., and ask that they direct it towards St Anne’s College:

Generally it is better to direct the gift to Americans for Oxford to avoid any unintended difficulties relating to the availability of the estate tax deduction which might arise with a payment direct to St Anne’s.

If you choose this route, it is important that you use the following wording:

I give and bequeath the sum of US$ ……… to Americans for Oxford, Inc., an exempt organisation under Section 501 (c) 3 of the Inland Revenue Code of 1983, as amended, at 500 Fifth Avenue, 32nd Floor, New York, NY 10110. Further, I express a preference that they consider granting aid to St Anne’s College, in the University of Oxford, Oxford, England, for the general purposes of the College.

(The IRS requires that the directors of Americans for Oxford retain control over any gifts made to them, but they have never been known to go against the wishes of a donor.)

St Anne’s main goal is to strengthen our endowment, which gives the College long-term financial security. Gifts for our general purposes are, therefore, especially appreciated, as they will allow the College to respond more flexibly to changing educational needs in the years to come.

If you wish to specify a particular area of St Anne’s life that you would want your gift to support, you might like to insert the following wording:

… for the general purposes of the College, with a preference that it be used to fund [your specified area]

The College’s Governing Body will always do its utmost to ensure the wishes of our benefactors are fulfilled; this suggested wording simply allows St Anne’s some discretion for unforeseen circumstances.
