Where there's a will, there's a way

Generous benefactions to the College have, over the years, made a huge difference to all who study and work here:

  • In 1945, Mrs Amy Georgina Hartland died leaving almost the whole of her estate without conditions to St Anne’s. This enabled the completion of the building which now bears her name, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.
  • A residuary bequest of some £20,848 by Mrs Kathleen Bourne (Allison-Brown, 1926) in 1960 continues to fund scholarships, a travel grant, and a Research Fellowship.
  • Bequests from Mrs Audrey Macbeth (Clark, 1925), Miss Victoria Kingsley-Parker (1920), Mrs Palma Trotman (1936) and Dr Marjorie Reeves have enabled the College to complete the Ruth Deech Building, ensuring almost all our undergraduates can now live on-site.
  • A bequest of £806,530 in 2001 by Miss Honor Balfour (1931) will endow in perpetuity the College’s Balfour Fellow in Politics.
