Iris Murdoch taught Philosophy At St Anne's between 1948 and 1963.
Dame Iris was a passionate advocate of educational excellence throughout her life, and understood better than most the importance of practical support. Her parents were not wealthy: the opportunities a university education opens up became available to Iris after she won an Open Exhibition to Oxford worth £40 a year.
The Iris Murdoch Memorial Fund has been founded thanks to the proceeds from sales of Dame Iris's library - gifted to the College by her widower, John Bayley - and from donations to the College from her former students and colleagues.
To date, over £100,000 has been gifted and pledged to support scholarships for students studying for the humanities at St Anne's.
If you would like to make a gift to this Fund please contact Wouter te Kloeze in the development office.
