St Anne's College Library is one of the two largest college libraries in Oxford in terms of current stock, containing around 110,000 volumes and 130 current periodicals.
2,000 new books are added each year. There are very strong collections in all subjects, and some special strengths, unusual in a college library, for instance in Linguistics, Chinese, Education and modern fiction.
The JCR and MCR are represented at Academic Committee, where Library policy matters are discussed.
The Library is open 24/7, term and vacation, to College members, except during Christmas/New Year College closure when Hartland House will be locked. Outside staffed hours, entry is by a code obtainable from the Lodge Porters, or by key fob. The Library will be staffed 9.00 am - 9.00 pm Monday and Wednesday, and 9.00 am – 6.00 pm other weekdays, during term time, and 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday in vacations. Guidance notes for using the Library outside staffed hours are on the Library notice boards. Please be aware of the advice about personal safety. Please be aware also that all Library rules and arrangements for borrowing books (see below) apply whether Library staff are present or not: these generous opening hours depend on your responsible co-operation and good behaviour in the Library.
Search OLIS to find the full shelf mark of the book you require. If the book shows as ‘Available’ in St Anne’s, consult the plan of the Library to find where it is housed. OLIS will also indicate if a book is out on loan to another reader.
If you want a book that someone else has borrowed, ask the member of staff at the desk to recall it. Placing a reservation at an OLIS terminal will not ensure that the book comes back quickly. Borrowers should be aware that if it is in the interests of the smooth running of the Library, we will tell an inquirer who has a particular book, in order for it to be recalled in the quickest and most efficient way.
Terminals are provided in the Library for searching OLIS and other bibliographical databases available through the University’s networks.
