Oriental Studies offers taught courses in a wide range of subjects.
In general, two-year MPhil courses offer ab initio training in languages such as Arabic and Chinese, combined with training in social sciences or humanities disciplines. One-year MSt courses require prior knowledge of a language, and offer intensive further training in language and research skills. Both can be taken either as preparation for doctoral research at Oxford or another university, or as qualifications in themselves. No teaching for these courses takes place in the College, but the College library acquires books required on MPhil and MSt reading lists, and there are usually between three and five graduate students in different Oriental Studies subjects at any given time. The College has a fellow in Oriental Studies, who acts as college advisor to all Oriental Studies graduates.
Please see the links below for details of the postgraduate courses available in Oriental Studies and for information about how to apply.
St Anne's offers a number of scholarships, bursaries and awards for postgraduate students. Please see our pages on Financial Matters for details.
