The Materials Department in Oxford is rated as excellent in both teaching and research, and St Anne's has a unique commitment to the subject with two tutorial fellows, one Research Professor in post, and another to be appointed.
Our main research interests lie in phase transformations, electronic materials and devices (semiconductors and superconductors), the biomaterials/physical science interface and the development of analytical techniques.
The support offered to Materials undergraduates is personal and enthusiastic. The majority of the Materials tutorial teaching in Materials, Economics and Management (MEM) is provided by the two tutors, the remainder of the teaching being given by specialists from other colleges. St Anne's Materials students enjoy the luxury of being situated within a two-minute walk of the Materials Department.
St Anne's is also committed to the Economics and Management elements of MEM, and has tutors in College who teach both the Introductory Economics and Introduction to Management courses. Economics and Management teaching only begins in the second year of the MEM course, making it possible for students to transfer to MEM after completing their first year of the Materials Science degree.
St Anne's benefits from a superb College Library – one of the best college libraries in the University – which has an excellent collection of textbooks for all three elements of the MEM course.
St Anne's MEM students have achieved extremely good degrees over the past few years, and have been successful in going into rewarding and challenging careers.
