Diageo Internship

The Opportunity

Diageo is offering an 8-week internship in its Asia-Pacific Marketing department, starting around July 2012 (exact dates to be agreed). The internship is intended for undergraduate students of any discipline who are in ther penultimate or final year. The position will be based in Shanghai. Asia is one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting business environments as well as one of the most challenging.

Diageo

Diageo is the world’s largest produced of alcoholic spirits, and a leading producer of beer and wine. A FTSE Top 100 company, it employs over 20,000 people and operates in over 180 countries worldwide. Some of its famous brands are Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness, Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur and Tanqueray Gin. An information pack on Diageo in Asia Pacific will be available to applicants.

The Internship

The type of issue might include:

  • gaining insight into an area of consumer behavior and identifying resulting opportunities for Diageo
  • analyzing the impact of Diageo’s or competitors’ activity and recommending resulting opportunities
  • analyzing how external factors (e.g. regulatory environment, attitudes to alcohol, consumer trends) could impact Diageo’s business and recommending actions
  • recommending media and marketing strategies based on analysis of the changing communication environment

Selection Criteria

Successful careers in Marketing (and, often, then on to General Management) are usually based not only on strong intellect but also on drive, high levels of emotional intelligence and energy, and an ability to influence and lead, as well as the ability to collaborate with others. Successful marketers are often highly curious about the world and human behavior, and can generate ideas from analysis, insight and instinct, and then work with others to translate these ideas into commercial success.

Remuneration

Diageo will pay travel and accommodation expenses, plus a reasonable living allowance.
