In Quest of a Cure – Professor Sally Shuttleworth
You are warmly invited to the launch of In Quest of a Cure: Literary and Medical Cultures of the Health Resort by Professor Sally Shuttleworth, Senior Research Fellow at St Anne’s College.
In this compelling new book Professor Shuttleworth combines medical history with literary analysis, exploring the lives and writings of patients sent abroad for their health, and changing patterns of medical treatment. Ranging from the 1860s to the 1920s, it offers fresh interpretations of classic texts, from Robert Louis Stevenson to Katherine Mansfield and Thomas Mann, while illuminating the complex relationship between medicine, environment, and literature.
We would be delighted if you could join us for an evening of conversation, celebration, and discussion to mark the publication of this important work.
