St Anne’s College Bake-Off

 

Welcome to St Anne’s virtual marquee of action, which will be crammed full of whipping, caramelising, chaffing, tempering and icing. In this edition, we have two challenges for you:

 

  1. Technical Bake.

 

  1. Showstopper Bake.

 

The technical bake will be led by our wonderful head chef Ben Gibbons. He will demonstrate the recipe and then it is up to you to master it. For this edition, we want to see your skill in making a vegan chocolate fudge cake! The showstopper will be for you to show off your personality, skill and talent. We expect something magical!

 

Ben will judge the entries next Monday (29th March). To submit, we need a picture of both cakes and a video of you slicing through the cakes — we want to see how the layers are melding into each other.

 

The competition will start with a Teams call on Friday (19th March) at 8pm where we will release the technical challenge video followed by a social bake.

 

The recipe ingredient list will be released on Wednesday (17th March). Don’t worry if you miss this; we will post the video on the @st_annes_social insta with instructions on Sunday (21st March).

 

Email your submissions for entry to peter.strain@st-annes.ox.ac.uk with the subject heading ‘Bake Off’ by 28th March. If you have any issues uploading or any questions contact that email also or catch us on Instagram. Forget cake stands, the prize for the winner will be an embroidered St Anne’s apron and £50 in baking equipment (or another prize of that value if you prefer).

 

Don’t worry if you are more skilled at eating cake than baking — the worst attempt will get a wooden spoon and a bottle of wine to help you drown those sorrows.
