St Anne’s Virtual Wine Tasting

St Anne’s Virtual Wine Tasting – French Classics with The Oxford Wine Company

A light-hearted and entertaining wine tasting in the comfort of your own home! Taste and learn about three classic French wines.

This event will be a brilliant opportunity to connect with fellow St Anne’s alumnae online over a glass of wine.

The tasting will take place via Zoom, and will be run by Emily Silva from The Oxford Wine Company. Emily has five years of experience running wine tasting events and is currently studying for her Master of Wine exams. While being a bit (ok, a lot) of a wine geek, Emily firmly believes that wine is primarily there to be enjoyed and takes an informal, inclusive approach to tasting events.

Suggested Pairings

Like to pair your wine with food? We have some suggested pairings below for the tasting wines.

Chablis – Chablis is famously grown on soils rich in marine fossils, and some say that this is why it pairs so well with seafood! Any shellfish works beautifully, but especially oysters. Poached or smoked salmon is also a winner, as are young, fresh goats’ and cows’ cheeses.

Fleurie – Fleurie is quite possibly the world’s greatest picnic wine. To that end, think about pairing it with rustic country pâtés, terrines, or rillettes with crusty bread and white-rinded cheeses. Any other charcuterie will also work well.

Bordeaux–Think about classic French dishes and delicacies. Blue cheese is a great pairing with Bordeaux, as are lamb and duck, particularly when rosemary, thyme and butter are involved. Cured meats are also a good pairing.
