Stipendiary Lecturership in English

Fixed term for one year from 30th September 2024 to 29th September 2025

Part-time: 5.3 contact hours of teaching per week during each term, averaged over the number of terms covered by the contract, the distribution of that teaching to be agreed with the subject tutor and expected to be around 4 hours per week in Michaelmas Term, six hours per week in Hilary Term, and six hours per week in Trinity Term. There are also duties associated with teaching, including organising and supervising students.

Stage 2 on the Recommended Scale for Stipendiary Lecturers 2023/24.

£13,945 per annum

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, talented tutor of English able to undertake an average of 5.3 contact hours a week of tutorial and/or small class teaching over the three eight-week terms of the academic year, the exact distribution of the teaching to be agreed with the subject tutor but expected to be around 4 hours per week in Michaelmas Term, six hours per week in Hilary Term, and six hours per week in Trinity Term. Alongside teaching, duties will include setting and marking written work, assisting students with study skills, revision and essay writing, organising teaching, and submitting reports. 

You will teach papers that are part of the English course and the English & Modern Languages and English & Classics courses, specifically: Prelims Paper 2: Early Medieval Literature, c. 650 – 1350, FHS Course I Paper 2 and Course II Paper 3: Literature in English 1350 – 1550, FHS Course II Paper 1: Literature in English, 650 – 1100, and Course II Paper 2: Medieval English and Related Literatures, 1066 – 1550 (currently Lyric).

Alongside a proven teaching ability you will have good communication skills and be able to participate in pastoral and organisation tasks within the College.
