Fixed term for 3 years from 21 September 2026, £36,899 per annum
The Governing Body of St Anne’s College invites applications for the Junior Research Fellowship in Ecology, tenable from 21 September 2026 for a fixed term of three years. The Fellowship is offered for research in Ecology.
While grounded in either Geography or Biology, this Fellowship could foster innovative, interdisciplinary research addressing global ecology in the broadest possible sense. It will expand the College’s intellectual reach, enrich academic diversity, and strengthen a culture of critical inquiry. Crucially, it will sustain and develop the pipeline of future academic leaders.
The JRF is open to those at an early stage of their academic career. You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or be near to completion of one) in either Geography or Biology, with a high level of research ability and strong record of education.
Applications will be judged on the candidate’s potential to undertake a significant and exciting programme of research in an area of Ecology, as evidenced by their research proposal, publication record and academic references.
The successful candidate will be expected to: engage in research and its dissemination; propose, plan and manage a high-quality programme of original research; publicise the outcomes of that research through presentation of papers and publications; undertake up to three hours of teaching per week during term time for the College, where appropriate; and engage in the life and activities of the College.
One of the largest Colleges in the University of Oxford, with around 860 students, St Anne’s is down to earth, ambitious, outward facing and collaborative. We aspire to understand the world and change it for the better.
St Anne’s admits six undergraduates a year to study Biology, six to study Geography, and six to study Earth Sciences, amongst other subjects, and there is a thriving graduate community working in these and other scholarly fields. There is strong interest in interdisciplinary work in the College, in Ecology and more broadly, and the College encourages and supports lively discussion across and between traditional academic disciplines.
