Japan to Oxford: Geiko Music High School in Concert

St Anne’s was delighted to welcome students from Geiko Music High School, part of Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), for a special evening of music during their visit to the UK in September.

The concert offered a wonderful opportunity to hear some of Japan’s most talented young musicians perform at an exciting stage in their musical journeys, before progressing to Geidai, Japan’s most prestigious conservatoire. We were treated to an exceptional evening of live music, showcasing the remarkable skill and promise of the next generation of musicians.

We are delighted to share some photographs from the concert, capturing a memorable evening and the warmth of the occasion.

The visit was also a lovely continuation of St Anne’s ongoing relationship with Japan, and of the cultural and educational connections that bring our communities together. We very much hope that our guests from Geiko Music High School enjoyed their time in Oxford as much as we enjoyed welcoming them to St Anne’s.

That relationship will be celebrated again soon when St Anne’s hosts the inaugural Anglo-Japanese Alliance Lecture Series on Friday 6 November. The special day will celebrate the enduring relationship between Britain and Japan, reflecting on the historic ties between the two countries while exploring the intellectual and cultural connections that continue to flourish today.

We are particularly honoured that The Rt Hon Lord Hague of Richmond, Chancellor of the University of Oxford, will join distinguished professors and scholars from Japan and Oxford for the occasion. Across four lectures, speakers will explore individuals, ideas and intellectual traditions that have shaped Britain and Japan and contributed to the wider world.

The programme forms part of the wider Uehiro Anglo-Japanese Academic Alliance, which is helping to strengthen connections between scholars and institutions in Britain and Japan and create new opportunities for academic collaboration, dialogue and exchange.
