St Anne’s Fellow, Prof. Sam Sheppard, elected to the American Academy of Microbiology

Prof Samuel Sheppard, scientific lead for digital microbiology and bioinformatics at the Ineos Oxford Institute for antimicrobial research (IOI) and Fellow of St Anne’s College, has been elected to the American Academy of Microbiology, Class of 2026.

The Academy is an honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology that recognises excellence, originality, service and leadership in the microbial sciences. Each year, nominees are elected through a stringent peer-review process, based on their scientific achievements and contributions to the field of microbiology.

Professor Sheppard commented: “I am honoured to be elected to the American Academy of Microbiology. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my trainees, collaborators, and mentors, whose dedication and creativity continue to inspire our work. I look forward to contributing to the Academy’s mission and advancing microbiology research that addresses pressing global health challenges.”
