Thanks to the generosity of generations of St Anne's alumnae, the College is able to award a number of travel and research grants each year to help our students broaden their horizons.
We offer around 70 awards to Undergraduates each year, to help fund travel in the Easter and Summer Vacations. These are administered by the Prinicpal's Office. Grants are not offered in Michaelmas term; the deadline for the Easter and long vacations is Friday of 5th week in Hilary and Trinity terms respectively.
Usually, these trips will be in direct connection with your degree subject, perhaps to enable you to conduct some research, and better to understand the language and culture of an area you are studying. Occasionally, grants may be awarded for extra-curricular activities where good reasons can be provided why a journey abroad will assist your personal development.
To apply for a travel grant, please download the Easter Vac Travel Grants Form and return it by Friday of Week 5 in Hilary or the Long Vac Travel Grants Form and return it by Week 5 in Trinity Term to the Principal's secretary, Deborah Walker.
Graduate Research and Conference Grants at St Anne's
Over 90 research and travel grants, totalling almost £20,000, were awarded to our graduate students in the academic year 2016/17. Such grants provide support for graduates going to a conference. Preference is given to those students presenting a paper or poster. They also fund research trips to libraries and research institutes overseas.
How do I apply?
Look out for the email sent from the Academic Administrator at the start of each term. Within the email will be a Weblearn link and you will be asked to complete an application online.
When can I apply?
There are three deadlines in each academic year on noon on Friday of Week 5 of every term. Please apply well in advance of your scheduled trip.
What do I need to provide?
You will be asked in the online questionnaire exactly what you are applying for, why you are applying for funding, and an itemised list of what the funding will be spent on. You will have to request a supporting reference from your supervisor for applications of £150 or more.
What will College provide?
We aim to be as generous as we can but we advise you to seek additional/matching funds from your department or funding body. We usually offer up to £100 for travel within the UK, up to £250 for travel to Europe, and up to £500 for travel elsewhere.
* Unsuccessful applications will automatically be passed to the MCR Academic Affairs Rep to be considered for an MCR funded travel/research grant. The MCR fund is worth £500 a term and is allocated by a Selection Committee of MCR members.
