Financial Difficulties and Hardship Support

Financial Difficulties and Hardship Support

There are a number of sources of funds available for those students who find themselves in unexpected financial difficulty. If you find yourself in such circumstances please email hardship@st-annes.ox.ac.uk, where a member of the hardship team in the Treasury will talk you through the grants and loans that you may be eligible for. John Ford, the College Treasurer, is also available to offer advice.

Both the college and the university can provide financial support. Details of the university provision can be found here: https://www.ox.ac.uk/students/fees-funding/assistance/oxford

Even in the case of university support the college will need to endorse the application, and subject to that, will provide the relevant application forms. It is important to note that hardship support is quite distinct from a bursary in that it is designed to be short term and cover unexpected need. In certain cases the applicant will need to make the case that they have enough future funding for them to complete their studies The college will assess an applicant’s financial position by asking them to complete a cash flow forecast. An example of this can be found here

This may seem a bit forbidding but many students have found it a useful exercise in helping them to manage their money. In some cases students have found that they have more money than they realised. In any event the hardship team in Treasury can be available to assist.
