The Tikvah Scholarships

The Tikvah Scholarships

(Tikvah is a Hebrew word meaning “hope”)

The Tikvah Scholarships are designed to support Jewish and/or Israeli (of any or no faith) undergraduates studying at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford.

The scholarships will be administered by St Anne’s College in partnership with the Leg-Up Charity for Kids (LUCK), a charitable incorporated organisation which advances the education of young people in the United Kingdom. St Anne’s alumnae and others have generously donated to LUCK to establish these scholarships, which aim to support Jewish and Israeli students in Oxford, fostering greater understanding between people of different faiths and cultures. People of all backgrounds and nationalities, including Jewish and Israeli students, are welcome in Oxford.

Launching in the 2025/26 academic year, the Tikvah Scholarships will be awarded based on the following eligibility criteria:

  • Open to Jewish undergraduates, or Israeli undergraduates of any or no faith, enrolled at St Anne’s College, Oxford.
  • Candidates will be required to demonstrate a clear plan to give back to Jewish or Israeli communities.
  • Priority will be given to those for whom the scholarship will make the most difference.
  • Recipients will be asked to report back on the difference the Scholarship has made to them and Jewish or Israeli communities at the end of the year.
  • Up to four scholarships will be awarded each year, with each recipient receiving £5,000 for the academic year.

On the scholarships, Principal Helen King said: ‘From our founding as the Society of Oxford Home-Students in 1879, St Anne’s has always sought to include and welcome students who had previously been unable to access an Oxford education. This heritage is expressed in our ambition to be a diverse and inclusive community, which is the destination of choice for the brightest and most ambitious students from all backgrounds. The agreement with the Leg-Up Charity for Kids to fund scholarships for Jewish undergraduates and Israeli undergraduates (of all faiths and none), supports that ambition and sends a clear message to applicants from these groups that, at St Anne’s, they will join a diverse, collaborative, and supportive community. These scholarships, like others available in the College, will provide financial support to enable scholars to benefit fully from the many opportunities open to them during their time at Oxford and support them in voluntary activity.’

Applications for the Tikvah Scholarships will open in Michaelmas Term.
