Academic background
Dr Kate Keohane is a personal tutor and graduate advisor for Fine Art and an organising tutor and lecturer in History of Art at St Anne’s College. She completed her PhD at the University of St Andrews in 2020 as part of the Horizon 2020 project EU-LAC Museums and is currently a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the History of Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford (2021-2024).
Research Interests
Kate’s research centres on the interplay between text and image and the ways in which art can offer alternative models for being-in-the-world.
She has published with Wasafiri, ICOM Routledge, and Afterimage, and has written for Tate, Art History, and the International Curator’s Forum. She is currently working on her book project: ‘Locating Common-Places: Edouard Glissant, the Caribbean and Contemporary Art.’
With Dr Giulia Smith, Kate organised the transnational online research stream ‘Biotic Resistance: Eco-Caribbean Visions in Art and Exhibition Practice.’ The proceedings of this series will be published as an edited volume with Manchester University Press, titled: ‘Caribbean Eco-Aesthetics: Artistic Strategies for Planetary Survival.’
Teaching
At the Ruskin School of Art, Kate offers courses on landscape, art and climate change, collaborative artistic practice, and art theory. At St Anne’s, Kate leads the International School course: ‘Re-Considering British Art.
