Oracy Workshop Programme

Here at St Anne’s we offer a variety of Oracy and Public Speaking Skills workshops to cover a range of ages from Year 7 to Year 11.

For younger year groups, our workshops cover presentation and speaking skills, and confidence-building activities. For older year groups, our work has a larger focus on debating and debate skills as a framework for students’ development of their public speaking and oracy work.

These sessions can easily be combined to produce oracy and presentation skills programmes based on your school and students’ needs.

If you feel like any of the following would suit your school or students, then please get in touch at outreach@st-annes.ox.ac.uk

Single Sessions

For single, in school or online, sessions we offer the following:

Oxplore Workshops (KS3): An introduction to a topic, big idea or ‘big question’ which can be explored through a range of different subjects and viewpoints. A member of outreach staff will guide students through exploring these topics differently, and the session culminates with students ‘answering’ with a short group presentation.

Presentation Skills Session (KS3/4): An introduction to presentation skills, how they are used, where they are useful, and tips on how to present work, build slideshows and presentation aids, and dealing with nerves and other difficulties.

Debating Skills Session (KS4): An introduction to common debating styles, how to incorporate presentation skills into traditional debating, and guidance and advice on structuring a debate or presentation of argument.

Programmes

Year 8 or Year 9 Oracy Programme: A short project launch by a member of Outreach staff in your school. A presentation skills session delivered in school or online. Visit days at St Anne’s College where students present their own oracy project and receive feedback from a member of outreach staff.

Oracy Residential: A short project launch by a member of Outreach staff in your school. A presentation skills session delivered in school or online. Overnight stay at St Anne’s College where students present their own oracy project and receive feedback from a member of outreach staff. For students in our more distant link regions.

Year 10/11 Debating Project: Project launch in your school or online. Outreach staff to provide debate topics to students to structure debates throughout the programme. Debating skills session delivered by outreach staff. Visit day to St Anne’s where students participate in structured debate and receive feedback.

If you wish to combine these programmes and workshops into a multi-year structure we would suggest either: A Year 9 Oracy Programme or Residential, followed by a Year 10 Debating Project; or a Year 8 Oracy Programme, followed by a series of Oxplore sessions in Year 9 and then a  Year 10 Debating Project.
