‘Jane Austen, Early and Late’ with Professor Freya Johnston

‘Jane Austen, Early and Late’ with Professor Freya Johnston

Join us for a live webinar on the November 10th at 6.00pm where Professor Freya Johnston will be discussing the life and works of British author, Jane Austen.

Freya Johnston is University Lecturer and Tutorial Fellow in English at St Anne’s College. She is the co-editor, with Professor Kathryn Sutherland, of Jane Austen’s Teenage Writings and the author of Samuel Johnson and the Art of Sinking, 1709-1791.

In Jane Austen, Early and Late Professor Johnston will re-examine the novelist’s earliest works, unpublished in their entirety until the mid-twentieth century, and uncover their continuity with the later fiction. In doing so she seeks to challenge the traditional distinction between ‘early’ and ‘late’ writing, and to offer a new picture of Jane Austen in all her complexity and ambiguity.
